Maintain proper HVAC dust and debris filtration after performing a cowl delete on your BMW E8X, E9X, or E84 X1 with this 2-piece replacement cowl filter set, designed specifically to retain ventilation system protection while preserving the weight savings, cooling improvements, and engine bay aesthetic of cowl deletion. The cowl delete modification is a popular weight reduction and engine bay cooling upgrade in the BMW E-Series performance community — removing the windshield cowl cover and HVAC filtration housing reduces vehicle weight by approximately 10 pounds, improves engine bay cooling, makes engine bay servicing easier, and allows the driver to hear the engine more clearly. However, deleting the factory cowl removes the dust and debris filtration that keeps contaminants out of the cabin ventilation system. This simplified cowl filter set restores that critical filtration function while preserving the benefits of cowl deletion — keeping dust, leaves, debris, and other contaminants out of the cabin air handler without reinstalling the heavy and bulky factory cowl housing.
Features:
- Cowl delete compatibility – designed to replace the factory HVAC filter housing function after cowl deletion modification
- Restores dust and debris filtration – prevents contaminants from entering the cabin ventilation system after the factory cowl is removed
- Reduced vehicle weight – the cowl delete modification reduces vehicle weight by approximately 10 lbs (4.5 kg) compared to factory configuration
- Improved engine bay cooling – the cowl delete enables better engine bay airflow for spirited driving and track use
- Enhanced engine sound – removing the cowl allows the engine intake and operational sounds to be more audible from the cabin
- Easier maintenance access – cowl deletion exposes the DME box, spark plugs, valve cover, and other engine bay service points for faster service
- Easy cleaning and reuse – simply rinse with water, allow to dry, and reinstall (do not oil)
- Black color blends seamlessly into the engine bay environment
- Direct retrofit installation – mounts using factory hardware locations

Contents:
- 2x Cowl Delete Replacement Filters
Important Note:
-
Mounting hardware NOT included: Source mounting hardware separately – use factory part number 07147146539 or equivalent bolts of similar size
-
Cowl delete prerequisite: This filter set is designed to be installed AFTER performing the cowl delete modification (removal of windshield cowl cover and factory HVAC filter housing). It is not intended for factory configuration vehicles
Benefits:
- Restores critical HVAC dust and debris filtration after cowl delete modification – addresses the contamination risk that develops when the factory filter housing is removed
- Preserves the weight savings, cooling improvements, and aesthetic benefits of cowl deletion – without sacrificing cabin air quality
- Significantly lighter than factory HVAC filter housing – maintains the approximately 10 lb weight reduction benefit of cowl deletion
- Reusable design enables long-term cost savings – clean and reinstall rather than replacing periodically like disposable filters
- No oil treatment required – simple rinse-and-dry maintenance keeps the filter functional without messy oil application
- Maintains improved engine bay cooling and engine sound that motivated the cowl delete modification
- Black color blends seamlessly with the engine bay environment, hiding the filter presence visually
- Wide chassis compatibility makes this versatile for BMW enthusiasts who manage multiple E8X / E9X / E84 chassis
Installation Notes:
-
Cowl delete required: Complete the windshield cowl cover and HVAC filter housing removal before installing this filter set
-
Mounting hardware required: Source bolts separately – use BMW part 07147146539 or equivalent bolts of similar size
- Allow the engine to fully cool before beginning installation to avoid burns from hot engine components
- Carefully position the cowl filters in the area previously occupied by the factory HVAC filter housing
- Secure the filters using bolts of appropriate size – verify proper tightening without overtorquing
- Verify the filters do not contact moving components, hot surfaces, or interfere with hood closure
- Inspect the cabin ventilation intake area to verify proper filter coverage – any gaps in coverage will allow contaminants past the filtration
- Test cabin ventilation operation – verify proper airflow through the cabin air handler with the filters installed
- Periodically clean the filters by rinsing with water – allow to fully dry before reinstallation. Do NOT apply filter oil – these are dry-flow filters
- Inspect filter condition periodically and replace if visible damage or excessive contamination is detected
- Consider water management modifications to address the loss of factory cowl drainage – particularly for vehicles regularly exposed to rain
- Professional installation recommended if you are unfamiliar with the cowl delete modification or BMW engine bay service
- If unsure about compatibility with your specific BMW variant or cowl delete configuration, contact our team with your year, model, chassis code, and modification status before ordering
Warranty:
- 12-month standard warranty from date of purchase
- Contact our support team for assistance with any issues
