These are solid bars for the VW ID4, similar to the ones I had my Golf Sportwagen, except the rails on the ID4 are down against the roof instead of being separated from the roof. This means the metal of the crossbars is the same but the detail of the brackets is different. It is still a pain to get the rubber strips into the grooves when you are first assembling them, but it does eventually go in. I find it better to pull the rubber with needle nose pliers than trying to push it in from the ends. Three rubber tends to catch on the sharp edges of the aluminum extrusion. The most annoying part is that the individual parts of the brackets don't slide easily when you try to remove them from the car, and some of them stay tight even when you unscrew the long Allen bolt. This makes it really hard to get them off the roof. Apart from that, they are great, strongly built and a good fit to the existing roof rails. I'm not worried that they will come loose. In fact, just the opposite! Also, the locking covers use a plastic tool (used to be a metal key) that hits the crossbars when you turn it to either lock or unlock the end caps. You have to assemble the brackets starting from the individual parts now, instead of them coming pre-assembled like before. I recommend these bars but they do have some things to get used to.
